Sierra Metals Expects to Meet Low-End Production Targets – Commodity Commentary

Sierra Metals Inc. said Monday that several issues weighed on production in the third quarter, but that it still expects to hit the low of its annual forecast.


Manufacturing :

Sierra Metals said copper equivalent production fell 38% in the third quarter to 21.9 million pounds.

Quarterly production included 8.3 million pounds of copper, down 32%; 19.1 million pounds of zinc, down 23%; 0.8 million ounces of silver, down 21%; 7.8 million pounds of lead, down 20%; and 2,261 ounces of gold, down 43%.


On manufacturing issues:

Sierra said the third quarter has been particularly difficult, with issues related to sequencing issues due to the limitations of Covid-19 over the past year, as well as unexpected equipment availability issues that have had an impact. impact on flow, load grades and recoveries, in particular at the Bolivar mine.

Additionally, the company said Cusi experienced operational limitations during the quarter, caused by high temperatures in the available workable areas.

However, Sierra said the problems are temporary in nature and that he expects to hit the lower end of his revised annual production forecast.
