Secretlab Titan Evo 2022: two-minute review
Anyone who spends a lot of time sitting at a desk knows how important a good quality chair is – a stiff back or the need to constantly adjust your posture reinforces the need for a good chair. Secretlab has made one of the best gaming chairs on the market and now follows it up with the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 update. Although it’s aimed at gamers, there’s no reason you can’t not also use it as a home office chair.
Cheap chairs are everywhere, but they often compromise, either with materials, construction or lackluster design. Upgrading to a quality chair like the 2022 Titan Evo is definitely an investment and, in the longer term, it’s the kind of chair your back (and butt) will thank you for.
The Titan Evo 2022 is available with a whole range of different customization options, including different sizes and upholstery options. There are also plenty of pop culture themes, including movies or TV shows, gaming franchises, and esports teams. For our review, Secretlab sent the larger XL version with the Neo hybrid leatherette upholstery in Ash color. It looks and feels fantastic.
The Secretlab Titan Evo XL is the largest variant of the Titan Evo line. Its seat base is deeper and wider than the small and regular versions, the backrest is higher, and it comes with a load capacity of 180 kg/396 lbs, making it a great option for taller people. .
After using the same gaming chair for three years, switching to the Titan Evo 2022 XL was a dramatic leap forward in just about every aspect. Its physical size posed a problem for this reviewer’s small desk space, but everything else, including adaptability and ergonomics, is excellent. Attending video meetings at work or typing at a desk felt very natural. As someone who may experience a bit of lower back discomfort when sitting in a chair or car seat, the customization of the three-dimensional lumbar support and combined with an ideal level of recline will really left wrap around support which was really impressive.

You might get by with a cheaper option like the $450 (£339 / AU$620) Duelhawk Ultra gaming chair or the $519 (around £406) DXRacer Master, but the leatherette finish and larger size of the Secretlab Titan Evo XL will certainly earn its share. of supporters.
Secretlab Titan Evo 2022: Design and build quality
If you want to spend a lot of money on a quality chair, it has to be well constructed and made with quality materials. The 2022 Titan Evo ticks those boxes.
The frame is steel, while the foam is a patent-pending Secretlab cold-cure formula. Our review sample (the XL size) came with the leatherette option in an ashen finish. The gray and black highlights are stunning. There’s no feeling that Secretlab has cut corners when it comes to materials and construction.
The wheelbase is made of reinforced ADC12 aluminum and attaches firmly to the underside of the seat. As a – how to say – taller individual any form of weakness or flexibility tends to show up so it’s great that the weight balance seems to be excellent and the structural integrity shows no signs of trouble after a couple of weeks of daily use.
In our tests, our chair didn’t move much, but the casters moved freely, even on carpet – a surface that some bearings don’t react too well to.
The armrests are highly adjustable. Secretlab calls them ‘4D’. They can be moved up or down and side to side. They can also be picked up. The entire armrest can also be moved by adjusting the screws on the underside that hold them in place. What really stands out is the use of magnetic attachments for the armrests. This means that the top can be replaced with another type or design. They are powerful magnets! Once attached, they do not move a millimeter.
The use of magnets is simple, but ingenious. Some chairs rely on straps to secure a headrest or lumbar pillow, but the 2022 Titan Evo uses a simple magnet to secure the headrest. It’s so simple that you wonder why it’s not much more common. Again, the magnet is strong and the headrest will only come off if you really try to remove it.
Secretlab Titan Evo 2022: configuration and assembly
The Titan Evo 2022 XL comes in a huge box. It’s so big you’ll probably need two people to move it or a sturdy cart. The individual parts are well packaged and the assembly instructions are well written and easy to follow with large diagrams.
The first step is to assemble the base section consisting of attaching the wheels and inserting the hydraulic piston. The next step is to attach the seat base to the backrest by aligning the recline bracket and then covering it with the supplied magnetic panels to hide the brackets and screws.
After that, it’s a matter of attaching the seat to the base and tightening all the screws. Both the base and the chair are quite heavy, so you’ll probably need some help attaching the seat to the base.
Once the big assembly step is complete, all that remains is to customize it according to your preferences. There’s tilt tension, armrest adjustment, lumbar adjustment, and height and tilt.
It’s definitely worth spending some time trying out some of the different settings. It’s one of the reasons you’d buy an expensive chair – getting it to fit your build and frame might take some time, but the end result is worth it.
Overall assembly was about as difficult as you would expect from a chair. It’s never a simple matter of snapping your fingers, but thanks to Secretlab’s excellent documentation, you’ll be up and running (or is it sitting?) in no time.
Secretlab Titan Evo 2022: Use and comfort
The best part of the chair is its adjustable lumbar support. There is an internal mechanism that can go in and out as well as go up and down. It is controlled by using the two dials on the side. It is far superior to the adjustment of a cheap cushion and it is worth adjusting it to suit your sitting and lying position. Once that’s done, it elevates the Titan Evo 2022 to a whole new level of comfort. Maybe airplane seat designers could learn a thing or two from Secretlab!
As a tall person at 194cm, this writer appreciates the extra few inches of seat depth. It brings the edge closer to the knees and when combined with the fairly stiff foam base it is very comfortable and supportive. A softer base would lack a bit of support while a harder base would start to feel, well, hard. The balance seems right.
After two weeks of sitting in the 2022 Titan Evo XL every day, we’ve come to love it. Going back to an old chair showed how much better the lumbar support is. During testing, this reviewer spent over a few hours playing Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands and I’m safe to say that the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022 is the best chair I’ve ever had the pleasure of parking my derriere in. There might be chairs that are better, but you’ll have to spend a lot more to get something significantly better.
Should I buy the Secretlab Titan Evo 2022?
