Krombacher and Wacken Open Air present the “Growling Creatures” – the first metal band made up of endangered animals

Krombach / Germany, August 1, 2022. What do gray seals, cuckoos and lynx have in common? They are all rare European native species whose survival is threatened, and they are part of the “Growling Creatures” – the first group of metal composed of endangered animals. Presented by Krombacher and legendary metal festival Wacken Open Air (W:O:A), the Growling Creatures are bringing attention to their threat and making noise for endangered species this summer.

“With Krombacher, we have been involved in national and international species protection projects for a long time,” says Peter Lemm, head of communications at the Krombacher brewery. “As the new partner of Wacken Open Air, it was important to us to create an authentic connection between our enduring commitment and entertainment with a wink. The Growling Creatures represent exactly that – as musical newcomers to the year, they deliver the best metal sound for a good cause.”

Animal metallic sound
On their mini-EP “Growling Creatures”, the endangered lead singers not only show the scale of the threat situation, but also offer a musical variety of metal: with “Nest Destroyer”, for example, the cuckoo of the endangered birds and the great gray shrike perform a melodic death metal track, with tree frog and wolf contributing guest vocals. Brown Hare and Lynx, meanwhile, deliver a real metalcore banger called “Furry Inferno.” And the female European bison and the gray seal are not only the largest mammals of the growling creatures, but also represent endangered species in the home regions of the Siegerland-based brewery and the Wacken Open Air of northern Germany. , respectively. These two incredible performers come together in perfect metal harmony for the song “Small Number Of The Beast”.

Quirky Special Guest: Growling Creatures at W:O:A
“Species protection is important for our whole environment, not just for individual niches in nature,” says Thomas Jensen, organizer of the W:O:A festival. “That’s why, at Wacken Open Air, we support the Growling Creatures and the cause behind them. Nature conservation and sustainability are also important topics for us as organizers, who also find the approval in the metal community.”

Co-organizer Holger Hübner adds: “A bunch of endangered animals – this has never happened before. The idea alone works and the three songs can’t be ignored either – which fit the W: O:A. It’s remarkable how much the animals sound in the pieces of metal.”

Of course, the Growling Creatures will also be present at Wacken Open Air from August 4th to 6th. They will complete the lineup on all stages of the W:O:A and will be seen at the Krombacher Stammtisch, the festival module of the on-site brewery. Exclusive to W:O:A, Animal Group T-shirts can be purchased as souvenirs. All proceeds from the sale of the limited edition merchandise as well as the sale of Rumble Creatures music will be donated to the NABU (Nature and Biodiversity Conservation Union of Germany) eV

A good idea for a good cause
The Growling Creatures add to Krombacher’s longstanding sustainability commitment. For more than 20 years already, Germany’s No. 1 beer brand has been actively involved in projects for climate protection and animal conservation, both in its home market and worldwide.
