April 1, 2012 is a day that many Hog fans would like to forget. It was the day the news broke that Petrino was involved in an accident while on his motorbike.

In the days to come, we would not only learn that it was a woman with Petrino, but that she was a university employee who had an affair with him.

At a press conference a few days after the crash, Petrino showed up wearing the now infamous neck brace. Now, 10 years later, he could be looking at thousands of neck braces that have flown from the shelves of local businesses as fans parody that day.

One of them is the Colliers Pharmacy in Fayetteville. Manager Libby Miller told 40/29 News that braces are in short supply.

“Well we started getting calls a few weeks ago, for the neck brace which is something we always wear, and then we started getting even more calls so we kept ordering more” , Miller said.

She adds that they were confused at first when calls for neck braces started coming in, but they quickly put two and two together.

“We weren’t expecting them, but as soon as we started getting them, we realized why we were getting them, and they’re mostly students and people just getting excited about the game,” Miller said.

Miller adds that she’s seen the social media posts encouraging fans not to wear neck braces because it might look bad on the fan base, but she says it’s all fun.
